Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital donates beds to help in training nursing students

The following press release was issued by Aspirus Ontonagon:

ONTONAGON, Mich. – Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital recently donated three patient beds to the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District for use in training students in the Certified Nursing Assistant program. The CNA program combines theory, lab practicum, and clinical instruction, and allows students the opportunity to explore nursing as a career choice.

“This is a wonderful program for students to immerse themselves in a health care environment early on and discover if nursing is what they want to do,” said Taylor Ross, Director of Nursing for Aspirus Ontonagon Long Term Care. “We are happy to support our community partners like the Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD and help contribute to bright, successful futures for nurses.”

The CNA program is offered at the Ontonagon, Ironwood, and Ewen-Trout Creek school districts, and prepares students for the State of Michigan Competency Evaluation Exam. Students enhance their verbal and written communication skills in a health care environment. They also learn about health professional, legal and ethical issues related to health care.
