Brockway Mountain Drive Opens for Visitor Season

Nothing beats the view from the top of the mountain. The roadway to Brockway Mountain Drive will officially open today. Just in time for warmer days and sunnier skies too. The Keweenaw County Road Commission announced yesterday that the department will remove the barriers blocking the roadway from both ends of the scenic stretch.

Constructed in the 1930s Brockway Mountain Drive was a Depression-era work project to support local employment and build new infrastructure. Since completion, the road has become famous for its expansive views of Lake Superior and the spine of the Keweenaw peninsula. The site has pull-off points on the way up for visitors to stop and take in a view of Copper Harbor below or a brief hike on walking trails. Then stop by the top of Brockway for an incredible 360 view over the Keweenaw Peninsula.
