Calumet Raising the Last of the Funds Needed for a Roof Replacement Project at 425 5th Street

Main Street Calumet wants to raise the final dollars needed to replace the roof of a sandstone building at 425 5th Street in Calumet. At the start of 2023, the Houghton County Land Bank and Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance and community stakeholders were awarded a 100,000-dollar Resilient Heritage Grant by MEDC. Delays in the state’s approval process however forced the project to not begin accepting contract bids until the end of the year. As a result, bids on the roof’s replacement came in slightly over the project’s budget at 110,000 dollars. Currently, the project has 4,000 dollars committed to make up the difference. Leaving 5,000 dollars left to raise. Those interested in contributing a tax-deductible donation to help replace the roof at 425 5th Street should contact the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance. The project falls under the village’s Bring Back Calumet initiative to revitalize Calumet’s community.
