Community Meeting to Discuss Keweenaw County’s Poor Cell Phone Coverage

Mobile phone coverage in Keweenaw County, or the lack of it, has always been a problem. A community task force will meet for the first time next week to discuss just that. The task force plans to focus on mobile phone coverage along US-41. The idea is to take motivated steps toward defining the issue and finding solutions. And while the lack of cell coverage in the county is a defining feature that many residents and visitors take pride in. There is an argument to be made that increasing coverage and service range has become necessary for many people; whether it is because of an emergency situation or having a certain comfort level while traveling around the peninsula. Finding a practical solution, that’s comes from the community and it’s residents is the task force’s top priority for solving the issue of mobile phone coverage in Keweenaw County. The public is invited to participate in the event, which will be held at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge at 3 p.m. next Monday. Residents can also join virtually via Google meet.
