Copper Shores Meals on Wheels Invites Food Producers to Learn How Their Produce Will Impact Seniors Health in the Copper Country

Copper Shores Meals on Wheels delivers delicious warm meals to seniors all over the Copper Country. Part of how the program has been able to deliver high-quality fresh meals comes from a growing connection with local food producers. On Monday and Wednesday next week Copper Shores Meals on Wheels will invite local food producers to learn more about a grant the foundation was awarded earlier in the year. Back in June Copper Shores received a 1.2 million dollar grant from the Food Bank Council of Michigan as a part of the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program, to support local food supply chains. Local food producers within 400 miles of Hancock are invited to join the foundation and share how the grant program and Michigan farmer’s help will support seniors living healthy lives in the western Upper Peninsula. There will be an online and in-person option to attend both meetings on December 4 and 6th. Monday’s meeting will begin at 3 pm. The meeting on Wednesday will start at 6 pm. Both sessions are expected to last about two hours. The in-person event will take place at the Portage Lake District Library in Houghton.
