CopperDog 150 Featured Artist Program Open Until the End of December

There might not be enough snow on the ground for the sled teams right now. But that doesn’t mean organizers are furiously preparing for another year of the Copper Dog 150 sled dog races. Each year during the race, attendees can purchase warm copper dog apparel, or pick up the year’s new poster. A lot of the art commissioned for the Copper Dog 150 comes from local artists. One of the most prized examples of local art includes CopperDog’s featured artist program which is used for the race’s promotional poster. The program encourages high school and middle school students from Houghton and Keweenaw counties to get creative and design pieces of art. The artist’s work that is chosen will be converted into digital and print media as the race uses the art to promote the event. All entries for the Copper Dog 150 featured artist program have to be submitted by December 31st. Organizers will notify the winner of the contest sometime next month. All artwork should be original and include CopperDog 2024 somewhere within the design. Find more program details below.

The ‘Featured Artist Program’ is open to students grades 8th-12th (ages 13-19) including homeschoolers. Artwork needs to be submitted before December 31, 2023. Submissions should be e-mailed to featuredartist@copperdog150.com as a photo or scan.

Art pieces should be created in “portrait orientation” on “letter size” paper (8.5” x 11”) with full-bleed (work goes to the edge of the paper). Digital pieces are to be created in the same orientation and size with a minimum resolution of 400 pixels per inch. If you have any questions, please contact CopperDog before you start!

Submissions should be original, and include “CopperDog 2024” [no space in CopperDog] somewhere on the piece. Along with your submission please attach a short bio of yourself including your name, age, grade, school, and contact information. Any media can be utilized, but it should be themed around the sport of sled dog racing.

Feel free to contact CopperDog with any questions at featuredartist@copperdog150.com.
