Debris fished out of L’Anse sewage treatment plant

The long-awaited repaving project for L’Anse and Baraga Avenues in the Village of L’Anse should begin in about two weeks. At last night’s council meeting, manager Bob LaFave said two contractors will be working on the project, so the work should be completed quickly.

Their completion date has to be done, I think it’s by the end of August, but we expect it won’t take them that long.

Waste treatment system lead operator Erin Lahti briefed the council on a major clean-up that was recently completed at the sewage treatment plant. LaFave said that the debris included a large bucket of golf balls, which someone must have hit directly into the tank.

So someone was hitting those balls into the wastewater plant, almost like something in a Chevy Chase movie.

LaFave also told council members that the village has applied for a state grant to build a kayak launch near the marina at Waterfront Park.
