Dial Help’s Third Annual Puppy Parade Tonight

April is sexual assault awareness month, and Dial Help is putting on the third annual Puppy Parade.

“So the Puppy Parade is a way for us to spread awareness during sexual assault awareness month during April. Sexual assault awareness can be a really difficult topic for people to talk about, so being able to bring your furry friend with you, who, you know, our pets are really good emotional support for all of us, so being able to have our pets while also talking about this really difficult topic, it really helps and it helps draw people to the event as well.” – Sexual Assault Services Coordinator at Dial Help, Paige Setter-Hallwachs.

The public event allows people to become aware of sexual assault, and how it’s something that still happens in the copper country. (2:07-2:33).

“Being sexually assaulted can be incredibly isolating. You know statistics say, I want to say it’s 8 out of 10 people know the person who sexually assaulted them, so it’s not the stranger danger most of us grew up hearing about or thinking about. So, it’s really important that we let survivors know that they can come forward and tell their truth and that the community is going to be there to support them, and that they’re not going to be blamed for what happened to them.” -Sexual Assault Services Coordinator at Dial Help, Paige Setter-Hallwachs.

There will be free t-shirts and information regarding local resources.

People can show up anytime between the two hours to allow the dogs to be spaced out to keep them as safe as possible. If your dogs don’t have the best history being around other dogs, or if you don’t know your new dog as well as you want to, you can participate online.

You can pick up your free bandana at the Dial Help office in downtown Houghton.

The event will be at Quincy Green, from 5:30-7:3.0 tonight, April 26.
