ORV Operators will soon have more terrain to explore in Michigan. Beginning January 1st many state forest roads open up to off-road vehicle traffic, but there are some state forest roads that make an exception to the newly permitted law. The DNR is reminding off roaders to check online maps before riding as not all of the roadways are clearly marked yet, due to frozen ground conditions. Approximately 6300 miles of state forest roads will become accessible for ORVs in the state forest system, while 1200 miles will remain closed. Most of the areas that will remain closed are near areas that emphasize quite recreation. A list is available for viewing at Michigan.gov/forestroads.
