Election Day in May Around the Copper Country

Across Houghton County, residents will have the ability to vote on various millage renewals. Including a county wide vote on a 1.37 millage renewal over 10 years for road maintenance in the county and seven cities and villages, for the county road commission.

There are also individual township road maintenance mileages up for vote throughout Houghton County. Many of the other renewals are township specific, such as in Chassell township, where voters will decide on renewals for township buildings and maintenance, and recreation projects. As well as a school district millage renewal of the base 18 mills for the non homestead tax millage over 10 years. Laurium residents will look and decide whether or not to override the Headlee act, and return to 12.5 mills for property taxes.

Additionally there is a millage renewal up for vote in Spurr township, within Baraga county. And two township millage votes in Ontonagon County, in Bohemia Township and Stannard Township.
