Fall Fest will Return with More of the Same Fun

The calendar has already turned to fall, and Houghton will celebrate the season this weekend. The second annual fall fest takes place this Saturday. Community and Business Development Director, Amy Zawada says that the city was surprised to see the very large attendance the event had last year. And they fully plan on even more people to stop by the Houghton waterfront pier this year.

“We think it’s going to be even more popular than it was last year. We have gotten a lot of attention on social media. And there’s going to be two tractor rides this year. Instead of one, that was a big draw. And there will be complimentary donuts while supplies last. And New Power Tour will be pressing apples, and giving out cups of cider.” Amy Zawada, Community and Business Development Director, City of Houghton

Houghton will bring back many of Fall Fest’s fun autumn activities that were available last year. Though Zawada says that the city will offer more opportunities to take a trip around the Lakeshore Drive on the popular tractor rides.

“You’ll wait in line for the hayride and it’ll take you on the waterfront trail. And it’ll loop around to the new Lakeshore Drive and back.” Amy Zawada, Community and Business Development Director, City of Houghton

The city has invited some local group’s to the event, who will help keep the fun going throughout the festival. Including the Houghton High School basketball team who plan to help with face painting. Kids will get to take home a pumpkins while supplies last from Nimela Family Growers. Attendees to Fall Fest will even have a chance to make their apple cider at 1 pm.

“It’s apples that you can pick off of any local tree, and they press it. And voila, you have this delicious fall drink.” Amy Zawada, Community and Business Development Director, City of Houghton

Houghton invites the entire copper country to enjoy a day full of fall colors, and plenty of fun. Fall Fest will begin on the pier at 11 a.m. and run until 2 pm. You can find more information on the city of Houghton’s facebook page here.
