Get Ready to Meet New Members in the Youth Action Council

The Youth Advisory Council gets young people involved in the community and teaches valuable skills. Members of the local group take on an active role serving the community through different philanthropic events, service projects, and volunteering. An important aspect to the Youth Advisory Council is the group’s emphasis on leadership. Not only teaching young people skills such as running meetings, but also allows youths to become decision makers and let their voice be heard. Many of these skills are developed as members of the council chose grant projects to work on in Houghton and Keweenaw counties, making recommendations to the Keweenaw Community Foundation board. Those interested in joining the mission of the youth advisory council, between 12 and 21 years old, can get to know other members of the group at their first meeting this year, on October 12th. During the 30 year history of the youth advisory council they have awarded nearly 300,000 dollars in grants. Learn more about the youth advisory council at Keweenawcommunityfoundation.org/yac.
