Hope House Granted 501(c)(3) Status

The Hope House Homeless Shelter is now recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS.

Shelter president John Niemela made the announcement over the weekend.

The non-profit status means that donations made to the shelter after June 30th of last year are tax exempt.

Hope House had sought to begin providing emergency shelter for area homeless for this winter but not enough churches signed on to participate in the revolving housing program.

Another effort will be made with the goal to open by next season.

More than 70 shifts per week need to be covered by volunteers from those churches to make the shelter possible.
