Horse Killed After Being Hit By Vehicle

A horse is dead following a collision with a vehicle in Ishpeming Township Tuesday night.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on Stoneville Road near County Road 581 just before 7pm.

Authorities say a 61-year-old Tilden Township woman was traveling southbound on the road when she struck a horse that was loose in the roadway with her 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan.  The horse then went through the windshield of the vehicle and partially into the passenger seat.

The driver possibly suffered a shoulder injury because of the crash. She was taken to UP Health System—Bell for treatment.  She was the only person in the van, which suffered major damage.

Due to the severity of its injuries, the horse was put down on scene. No information regarding the owner of the horse or why it was loose was released.
