Houghton City Council Preview: Budget Approvals and New Police Vehicle

The City of Houghton will hold their monthly meeting to approve a right-of-way grant for Semco Energy, adjustments for the 2022/23 budget, the LDFA budget, and the purchase of a new police vehicle.

Semco Energy needs to place a gas line on Huron Street that connect Montezuma Avenue and Shelden Avenue in order to connect the Douglass House Apartments. They request a right-of-way grant from the council, as it has already been approved by the Director of Public Works and the City Manager.

Adjustments to the 2022/2023 budget were straightforward, with adjustments that will guide the city budget for 2023/2024.

The new police vehicle up for approval is a 2023 Dodge Durnago that will be modified slightly to allow the implementation of police equipment. The city applied for a grant from the state, and Rural Development provided a grant worth $23,900. With expenses for the police equipment, the cost to the city is still over $42,500.
