Houghton City Council Preview: City to Consider Loader Purchase and Rural Development Grant

Tonight Houghton’s city council will meet for the first of the city’s regular council meetings in the month of August.

Ahead of the regular meeting the council will hold a public hearing for the city’s application for a Rural Development grant that will seek to purchase new equipment. Using the grant funds, the city of Houghton plans to purchase a new wheel loader for the public works department for snow removal during the winter. The total cost of the loader is anticipated to be 225,000 dollars.

Additionally the city council will seek members to act as the city’s delegates to the Michigan Municipal League conference this fall, taking place down state in Muskegon, Michigan.

Last the city council will look to make another payment for water and sewer system work taking place within city limits.
