Missing Houghton County Man Found, Deceased

UPDATE: The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department reports that a Painesdale man who was reported missing has been found dead. The body of 80-year-old Francis Destrampe of Painesdale was located in Baraga County. No other details have been released.

The Baraga County Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Forest Service, the Michigan State Police, Superior Search and Rescue, Baraga County Search and Rescue, Bay EMS, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Houghton, Baraga and Ontonagon County Road Commissions assisted in the search.


The Houghton County sheriff seeks the public’s assistance in finding a mission person. The Houghton County Sheriff is searching for 80-year-old Francis Destrampe of Painsdale. He was last seen Saturday night into Sunday morning around midnight traveling west on M-38 near Nisula. The sheriff’s office believes Destrampe may have been heading to his hunting camp in the Silver River Reserve. Destrampe drives a red four-door Dodge Ram truck, with a plow. The truck’s license plate is ENZ8027. Anyone with information on Francis Destrampe’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Houghton County sheriff’s office at 906 482 0055.
