Houghton County’s Equalized Value Increases for Real and Personal Property

Houghton County’s Commission received the annual county equalization report. The county’s equalized value has risen since the previous report by fifteen percent for real property and eight percent for personal property, totaling 1,823,620,232 dollars. The five communities that received the highest equalized value included the City of Houghton, Portage Township, City of Hancock, Calumet Township, and Torch Lake Township.

“For 2024 the total taxable value of the county is 1,251,088,355 dollars. Between real and personal there’s 1,169,226,200 in real property and 81,862,166 in personal. Between 2023 and 2024 there was an increase in the total taxable value for 102,448035 or approximately an 8.5 percent increase.”Jaikob Djerf, Equalization Director, Houghton County

Those same five communities were also assessed with the highest taxable values in the county.

Equalization Director Jaikob Djerf also introduced to the commission Elizabeth Anderson as the new Equalization Specialist.
