Houghton Pier Set to Begin Construction

City Manager of Houghton, Eric Waara, hopes construction on the city’s new 4.9 million dollar pier will begin in July. Anticipating the project will finish before summer next year.

Probably the work of the pier itself late summer, and work into the winter as long as they can keep working. And then get as much done as they can this fall. And then come back in the spring with the intent that by early to mid summer the work will be finished.

The development of Houghton’s waterfront will allow the city to have a gathering place. Waara wants this new project to be a center for community events all year round.

Part of a healthy downtown is you want to have places that’s people want be. Places that you can hold events that will also help your downtown economy by bringing people downtown. So hopefully once this is finished, this is a place for our farmer’s market, for the snow house for winter carnival.

The plans for the new pier, should have the project finished by next summer. With events to be held at the location soon after.
