Houghton Planning Commission Preview: Masterplan, H3, and a Redevelopment Committee

The Houghton Planning commission will hold their monthly meeting to review the changes of three chapters of the masterplan, discuss the new apartments, H3, plan amendments, and to assign a committee for redevelopment sites.

The new apartments will be on the corner of McInnes Drive and Upland Avenue, and there have been revisions to the parking plan. The 74 space parking garage has been eliminated from the plan, and now there will be 153 spaces just off Fairview street.

As of now, private property owners have made offers on city property to develop it, and the planning commission plans to form a committee to help make a plan of what is wanted, or not wanted, in the development of the areas.

The planning commission also will review edited chapters of the Masterplan. Chapter 7 is in regards to recreation, and highlights include a budget of $491,000, which is projected to double in the next 10 years. There have been no major changes to Chapter 10 regarding downtown Houghton, and Chapter 11 regarding the M26/Sharon Avenue business corridor.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 tonight in the City Council Chambers
