Houghton-Portage Schools Looking into Updating Strategic Plan in September

Houghton’s school board is looking into developing a new strategic plan for the district. After talking with other districts, like that of Ironwood schools, the board hopes to use MASB as an organizer and developer of such a plan. The previous strategic plan employed by the school was up at the end of 2019 and has not been updated since due to the pandemic and other issues taking precedence. Evaluations and development for the strategic plan would begin around the coming school year, in September. As it is easier to start the process at the beginning of a academic year, than in the middle of one. The school districts’ midyear evaluation, [the district] graded above their goal for all levels in math and received and at or above grade for reading at each level. The evaluations are a part of the education policy from the pandemic. The school board does not anticipate the policy continuing beyond the end of the school year. The board also approved the spring coaching list for spring sports.
