Keweenaw Bay Fire buys truck

Northern Baraga County has a more nimble fire truck answering calls.

The Keweenaw Bay Fire Department purchased the used vehicle from an agency in Alabama, and it was decaled in Fort May, New Jersey to be repurposed for local use. The 1989 Ford F-350 is smaller than other equipment being used by the department. Even though it is over 30 years old, it has under 70,000 miles.

Chief Diane Morin said, “In a township with a wide variety of terrain, a smaller rig like this will
allow us to reach remote and tough-to-access fires in a more effective fashion.” Morin expects the vehicle to be used when responding to traffic accidents and downed power lines, among other secondary calls the department receives.

The truck cost only $10,000 and was hauled back to the area by Dynamite Towing.
