Keweenaw County Commission Wrap: Keweenaw to Discontinue Use of Zoom for Regular Meetings

Keweenaw County will discontinue the use of zoom during regular commission meetings going forward. The commission noted that there has been a lack of participants taking part in meetings. Previously the commission discontinued public comment through zoom during meetings. The commission also feels that if an issue is large enough, it is best addressed in person.

Keweenaw County has moved forward on the next step to install an elevator in the courthouse. The commission had two options according to a study conducted by OHM. The commission will have the elevator installed near the front stairwell and entrance of the courthouse. Noting that the county may want to make improvements to the stairwell in the future, during the installation will be a good opportunity to inspect the stairway stringers and supports. Placing the elevator near the front entrance will also be convenient for those who need to use it, and will save the county from shrinking the equalization department’s office.

Additionally the county will continue using the existing system in place for use of the medical examiner. Last Keweenaw County extended the county’s emergency dispatch contract with the MSP Negaunee Dispatch for another three years.
