Keweenaw County seeking grant for new patrol car

At Tuesday’s Keweenaw County Board of Commissioners meeting an opportunity to give public comment on the preapplication for a United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant came and went with no input. That allowed the panel to vote on the document, which was approved unanimously. The county is seeking funds for a new patrol car, while simultaneously beginning contract negotiations with the union representing the sheriff’s department. Del Rajala will be the county’s lead representative in the matter.

Applications are due Friday for the part-time opening in the county’s Equalization Office. Commissioners Jim Vivian and Randy Eckloff will interview candidates to fill the assistant position that became vacant earlier this week.

The county is also actively seeking bids for its 1995 Blue Bird bus. Submissions will be taken until October 20th at 4 PM.
