High School
On the opening night of the boys high school basketball tournament…
– In Class B, Houghton’s season ended with a 63-55 loss to Kingsford.
– In Class C, Hancock eliminated Ironwood 61-51. Calumet advanced with a 53-25 victory over L’Anse. Matt Ojala led Calumet with 15 points.  The Copper Kings and Bulldogs will play for the district title tomorrow. Pregame coverage will start around 6:40 on 97.7 The Wolf and TheWolf.com.
– In Class D at Baraga, Dollar Bay dispatched Ontonagon 69-47. Jaden Janke scored 34 for the Blue Bolts. Chassell defeated Baraga 76-43. Hunter Rautiola led the Panthers with 21 points. In the district semifinals tomorrow night, Dollar Bay will face Jeffers at 6:00; Chassell will take on Lake Linden-Hubbell at 7:30.

In girls regional semifinals tonight…
– In Class B at Manistique, Houghton will face Kalkaska at 6:00. Our broadcast will begin around 5:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– In Class C at Marquette, Calumet meets Ishpeming at 8:00.
– In Class D at Kingsford, Jeffers plays Bark River-Harris at 7:45. We’ll join that game after the Houghton broadcast on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

The high school hockey tournament continues tomorrow night, when Calumet takes on Big Rapids in the state quarterfinals at Sault Ste. Marie. Our broadcast will start around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Finlandia University has a new head women’s basketball coach. John Motherwell has 18 years of college coaching experience. He spent the past season as an assistant at Valparaiso, and was an assistant at the University of Minnesota the two previous seasons. His nickname is “Mo,” and he is a Michigan native. Jackson

NBA
Reggie Jackson scored 26 points, as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Chicago Bulls 109-95 last night. 24 of Jackson’s points came in the second half, as Detroit overcame another slow start. The Pistons play at Indiana tomorrow night.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Toronto tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Pelfrey

MLB
Mike Pelfrey melted down in the third inning, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 yesterday. After making it through two scoreless innings, Pelfrey gave up four straight hits to start the third, got only one out, and was charged with five runs. The Tigers have lost six in a row, and take on the Phillies this afternoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers pounded the Cleveland Indians 14-4 in Cactus League play yesterday. The Brewers have today off.
