L’Anse receives grants for marina improvements

The Village of L’Anse is a step closer to getting some improvements at its marina. At last night’s council meeting, manager Bob LaFave reported that two grants have been approved that will help pay for upgrades. One will cover part of the cost of replacing the aging floating dock, and building a retaining wall that will help keep sand and silt from clogging the marina. The other will help pay for a new canoe launch. There is no timetable yet for making the improvements.

Council member Leann Davis reported that last week’s Boo! on the Bay Halloween event was a big success.

We went through 43,000 donut holes, and I don’t know how many things of cider.

Davis estimated that 80 percent of those who attended were visitors to the village. Council members also saluted the success of this year’s Howl-O-Scream Haunted House, which has had strong attendance and positive reviews. Howl-O-Scream is a fundraiser for Meadowbrook Arena. One final night is planned for this Friday, with a tame version from 6:00 until 8:00, and the full version from 8:00 until 10:30. Tickets should be purchased in advance through the Howl-O-Scream Facebook page.
