March 4th COVID-19 Update

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department released a new COVID-19 update Friday morning covering activity within the past three days. Overall, the numbers look better than was perhaps expected given the release concerning spread at a Calumet hockey tournament that came out last night.

Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties combined for 9 new positives versus 20 recoveries. A death previously attributed to Houghton County was removed. Vaccination rates continue to creep up. Shipments of the newly approved Johnson and Johnson vaccine should help to accelerate the process, combined with shifting of eligibility requirements to those 50 and older versus 60 or 65 and up.

TOTAL: 16 more positives, 17 more probable positives, 39 more recoveries, 1 less death and 15.60% fully vaccinated (up from 15.00% meaning 343 people)
BARAGA COUNTY: 1 more probable positive, 7 more recoveries and 18.36% fully vaccinated (up from 17.91%)
GOGEBIC COUNTY: 7 more positives, 5 more probable positives, 11 more recoveries and 14.69% fully vaccinated (up from 14.48%)
HOUGHTON COUNTY: 8 more positives, 10 more probable positives, 12 more recoveries, 1 less death and 13.63% fully vaccinated (up from 12.99%)
KEWEENAW COUNTY: 1 more probable positive, 1 move recovery and 17.29% fully vaccinated (up from 17.02%)
ONTONAGON COUNTY: 1 more positive, 9 more recoveries and 25.46% fully vaccinated (up from 23.57%)
