Memorial Day Observances Through Weekend and On Monday

Memorial Day is next Monday, but over the weekend, there will be various observances to honor those who have fallen in battle both nationally and internationally.

On Saturday, the Calumet VFW Auxiliary will host a pancake breakfast and bake sale from 8a.m-12p.m.

On Sunday, Memorial Day observances provided by Baraga American Legion Post 444 will be 10 a.m-12:15p.m.

On Monday, nearly 50 separate services are to be held throughout the day. There are some that are unconfirmed, so check with your local American Legion or VFW post on what’s happening. See the full list on the Community Calendar.

The first ceremony will take place at 7:50 am at the Church of the Resurrection/Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock, presented by the Hancock American Legion Post 186.

Ceremonies will continue every 15 minutes through the Keweenaw until 3p.m, when there will be the national minute of silence observed at L’Anse Waterfront Park, accompanied by the playing of “Taps”.
