Michigan Tech Encourages Community Participation in the Upcoming Parade of Nations

Michigan Tech’s students are just about ready to move in and get the school year started. And soon after the start of the fall semester is one of the university’s most exciting traditions that has been in place since 1989, The Parade of Nations.

The festival celebrates the university and region’s diverse cultural identities. Each year the parade is graced by fun and interesting floats displaying a small portion of each country’s cultural identities. Michigan Tech University prides itself on its many international students who come from far and wide to the corner of earth we all call the Keweenaw Peninsula. As usual the university encourages the wider community, and near by alumni to join the fun at the parade coming up in just about a month.

That includes getting involved in the parade and creating a parade float to help represent some of the many ethnic groups who immigrated to the Copper Country during the peak of the area’s mining industry. Float participants are judged for their creativity, and vibrant display of culture. Those interested in building a float for the parade of nations should register with event organizers online, More details about the Parade of Nations are linked, here. The Parade of nation will take place in Houghton and Hancock on Saturday September 16th.
