Michigan Tech Spring Commencement Speakers

Spring commencement is just around the corner for local universities.

Michigan Tech has a new arrangement this year that will keep the ceremony to approximately two hours, which aims to keep the event more comfortable and meaningful for everyone involved.

Approximately 300 graduate students will participate in their commencement on Friday afternoon. Michigan Tech will be awarding 49 PhD’s, and 248 masters.

About 750 undergraduate students will participate in their commencement on Saturday morning.

Automotive industry leader and Michigan Tech alumna Julie Fream will speak at both commencements. She is currently a CEO of Motor & Equipment Manufacturing Association (MEMA) Original Equipment Suppliers. She was named one of Michigan’s Most Influential Women by Crain’s Detroit Business in 2016 and 2021. She was also recognized as one of the 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry by Automotive News in 2015 and 2020.

The graduate student speaker, Tinu-Oloade Folayan, is earning her Ph.D. in chemical engineering. Her hometown is Iludun-Oro, in the Nigerian state of Kwara. After a short break, she will begin her position as a research and development senior engineer at DuPont.

The undergraduate student speaker, Anderson Piercey, is earning his bachelor’s in business management with a minor in psychology. Anderson will begin his career as an associate business analyst at Auto-Owners Insurance in Lansing.
