The local high school hockey regular season wraps up tonight, as Calumet welcomes Marquette. The Copper Kings could clinch a share of the Great Lakes Conference championship with a victory. Our broadcast will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. The playoffs begin Monday, and we’ll provide full coverage on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Hancock forward Lance Kangas and Calumet forward Matt Yeo each received Honorable Mentions in this week’s LTU Michigan North Division Player of the Week voting. Marquette goaltender Tyler Bergwall won the honor for the week. The statewide voting is coordinated by the coaching staff at Lawrence Tech. KBear 102.3 is a member of the voting panel.

The local girls basketball regular season also concludes tonight…
– Calumet entertains Lake Linden-Hubbell.
– Hancock welcomes Chassell.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City travels to Ewen-Trout Creek.
– Jeffers plays at L’Anse.
– Baraga entertains Watersmeet to make up a game that was snowed out on January 6th.

MTU/NMU
Both Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan wrap up their regular-season schedules tonight with rivalry games against one another at the SDC. The women’s game starts at 5:30, and the men’s contest at 7:30.

The Tech men’s team is part of a four-way tie for second place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division. Given the various tie-breakers involved, the Huskies need a win tonight, and a loss by Grand Valley State to Ferris State, to give them a home game in the opening round of the playoffs next week. The women’s team has already clinched the fourth seed in the tournament, and will open at home on Tuesday.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons return from the All-Star break tonight at home against the Charlotte Hornets. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
