No school tomorrow

All public schools in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties will be closed tomorrow, so parents should make plans for their kids to ease into a three-day weekend. The Copper Country Intermediate School District discussed the professional development day that is being coordinated area wide at Tuesday night’s meeting. Superintendent George Stockero says he is excited about the presentation from Dr. Stephanie Grant, a developmental psychologist.

Grant will be involved in two sessions and her speech will concern helping students who struggle with remaining focused and attentive in the classroom. Hancock Public Schools has completed COVID-19 vaccinations for its staff, but most districts still need to receive their second shot. Houghton-Portage Township Schools are facilitating that for staffs as far away as Baraga and L’Anse. That will be taken care of on Friday as well, allowing employees to recover over the weekend should there be any reaction.
