One dead after Ahmeek apartment fire

A release from the Office of Keweenaw County Sheriff Curt Pennala reveals that one person died in the Ahmeek apartment fire Thursday night. Pennala says that the tragic consequences from the blaze will increase scrutiny of its cause.

Obviously with a fatal house fire we want to cross out all of our t’s and dot our i’s, and make sure there is nothing suspicious in nature.

Multiple representatives associated with the State Fire Marshal are being called in to investigate. Pennala doesn’t expect a preliminary report for several days.

Several emergency personnel made heroic actions that kept the situation from potentially being much worse. Pennala says deputies were able to pull out a tenant in frail health from the lower apartment and firefighters rescued several cats.
