Snowmobiler injured in crash Saturday near Gay

Just after three on Saturday afternoon, the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a snowmobile accident involving a 22-year-old Wisconsin man. Keweenaw Off Road Rescue, which is a joint operation between law enforcement and the Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire and Rescue, among others, was able to treat the man for a shoulder problem.

The injury was serious enough that Mercy Ambulance transported the snowmobiler to a local hospital. It is unclear which facility he was taken to for treatment. There is no indication that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The accident occurred on Trail 124 which winds northwest from Gay towards Thayers Lake and eventually up to US 41.
