UPDATE: ICE BOWLING and SPEED SKATING results. Coronation video. Tech crowns royalty; special events results

The title of Royal Majesty was up for grabs inside the Rozsa Center Saturday night. The coronation ceremony began at 7:00 and highlighted “students for their excellence within the community and on campus.” Eight candidates vied for the crown. Abbie Bethune took home the Queen title. First runner up was Erika Gabriel and 2nd runner up was Tierra Kelley. Bethune was selected as the audience choice and Gabriel picked up the nod for Miss Congeniality.

Bethune is a fourth year civil engineering student sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Tau Gamma, and Celebrations Bridal. Gabriel is a member of the varsity women’s soccer team sponsored by Phi Kappa Tau and North Wind Books. She hails from Grandville. Kelley traveled the farthest to be a part of Michigan Tech. Originally from Bakersfield, California, she says adjusting to winter took some time. She was sponsored by Delta Zeta and The Den.

The All-Nighter is still two days away, but special events have been taking place from inside the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena to the intramural softball fields and several spots in between. Phi Kappa Tau (men’s division), Alpha Sigma Tau (women’s division), and St. Albert the Great University Parish (coed division) won snow volleyball held on January 29th.

Curling and snow soccer also occurred. Alpha Sigma Tau (women’s division), Phi Kappa Tau (men’s division), and St. Albert the Great University Parish (coed division) were tops on the curling sheet. The Gunners (men’s division), the Guardians of the North (coed division), and Alpha Sigma Tau (women’s division) were best on the pitch.
