Norris

MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open a home set against the Los Angeles Angels tonight. Daniel Norris will pitch against Jesse Chavez. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

An MRI has revealed no structural damage in the tight groin muscle that forced Justin Verlander to leave Sunday’s game early. Verlander will be evaluated again in a couple of days, and could be cleared to make his next scheduled start on Friday.

Second baseman Ian Kinsler and catcher James McCann are scheduled to return from the disabled list today. The Tigers have not announced who will be sent down to make room.

Scahill

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the San Francisco Giants 7-2 last night. Both Brewers’ runs came in the first inning. The Giants scored single runs in the fourth and fifth off Junior Guerra, who left with the game tied. Rob Scahill gave up two runs in the eighth and took the loss. Neftalí Feliz surrendered three more in the ninth.

The Brewers entertain the Giants again tonight. Chase Anderson will start against Matt Cain.

Milwaukee outfield prospect Brett Phillips collected his first major league hit in his debut last night. He’s on the roster while third baseman Travis Shaw is away on paternity leave. The Brewers have also completed a complicated trade made with the Red Sox last December. The Crew sent pitcher Tyler Thornburg to Boston in exchange for Shaw, shortstop prospect Mauricio Dubon, pitching prospect Josh Pennington and a player to be named later. That player has now been identified as 18-year-old Yeison Coca, a switch-hitting middle infielder from the Dominican Republic.
