UPDATE: Fire Department Investigating Cause of Lincoln Avenue Fire in Hancock

Update: Hancock Fire crews responded to a fire on Sunday at 911 S. Lincoln Drive, at approximately 6:30 pm. Upon arrival crews report the entire structure was engulfed in flame. The fire caused minimal damage to a neighboring building. 911 S. Lincoln Drive was unoccupied at the time of the fire. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion during the incident. The incident lasted approximately two and half hours after arrival on scene.

An investigation conducted by the Hancock Fire and Police Departments this afternoon, reports that the fire started on the first floor of the building. The ignition of the fire does not appear suspicious in nature.

Hancock Fire was assisted on scene by the Houghton Fire Department, Dollar Bay First Responders. Hancock Police, MTU Public Safety, and the Houghton County Sheriff were on scene for traffic control.

The Hancock Fire Department is investigating the cause of a structure fire that occurred last night along Lincoln Drive. Last night, Hancock fire crews responded to a house fire in the area of 915 Lincoln Drive, at approximately 6:30 pm. Hancock police responded to the scene, assisting with traffic control in the area, diverting traffic west along M-203, to Ethel Avenue. Crews were able to contain the fire to the single structure, and began clearing equipment around 9 pm. Hancock Police report that fire investigators plan to begin their investigation this afternoon. We hope to have more details as this story develops. Hancock Fire was assisted by Houghton Fire, Hancock Police, Michigan Tech Public Safety, and the Houghton County Sheriff.
