Wings Earn OT Win; Pistons Fall at Buzzer – Wednesday Sports Update

Anthony Mantha’s goal in the final minute of overtime lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens last night. Jimmy Howard made 35 saves, as Detroit collected its third victory in the last four games. The Wings host the Tampa Bay Lightning Friday.

Brook Lopez’ basket at the buzzer lifted the Brooklyn Nets to a 98-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons last night. Tobias Harris scored 24 for Detroit. His two-pointer with two-and-a-half seconds remaining tied the game, after the Pistons had played from behind for most of the night. Lopez prevented overtime with an off-balance 16-footer. The Pistons play at Chicago tonight. Tip-off is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Michigan Tech has set up a fan bus for those interested in traveling to Cincinnati to see the Huskies face Denver in the opening round of the NCAA hockey tournament Saturday. The bus will head out at 7:00 Friday morning, and depart from Cincinnati around 9:00 Sunday evening, after the regional championship game. The athletic department has also set up a block of rooms at a Cincinnati hotel. If you’d like to ride the bus, or reserve a hotel room, you’ll find instructions here.

In spring training baseball, the Detroit Tigers had yesterday off. They’ll face the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 yesterday. Matt Garza pitched into the fourth inning. He gave up six hits, but just one run, and struck out five. Manny Piña homered. The Brewers will play the San Francisco Giants this afternoon.
