NCAA
Michigan Tech’s hockey season ended Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to top-ranked Denver in the opening round of the NCAA Division One Men’s hockey tournament. Denver went on to defeat Penn State 6-3 in the Midwest regional championship game yesterday. The Pioneers will face Notre Dame in the tournament semifinals April 6th. Harvard will play Minnesota-Duluth in the other Frozen Four semifinal.

The Final Four is also set in the NCAA Division One Men’s Basketball Tournament. In the East, seventh-seeded South Carolina continued its Cinderella run with a 77-70 win over Florida yesterday. The Gamecocks will face Gonzaga in the first of Saturday’s semifinals. In the South, North Carolina edged Kentucky 75-73 yesterday. The Tarheels will take on Oregon in the second semifinal. Hear all of the remaining tournament games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Athanasiou

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings edged the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in overtime yesterday afternoon. Mike Green and Tomas Tater scored in regulation, and Andreas Athanasiou had the game-winner two minutes into the extra period. Jimmy Howard stopped 19 shots to get the win on his 33rd birthday. The Wings will skate at Carolina tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons will face the Knicks in New York this evening.

Zimmerman

MLB
Nicholas Castellanos hit his fourth home run of the spring, but the Detroit Tigers fell 4-3 to the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday. Jordan Zimmermann pitched well, giving up a run on two hits before leaving in the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead. Bruce Rondón allowed a run in relief, and closer Francisco Rodriguez was touched for two runs in the ninth. The Tigers will face the Atlanta Braves tonight.

Detroit released reliever Mark Lowe yesterday. Lowe was signed to a two-year free-agent contract before last season, but struggled all last year, and again this spring. The Tigers also assigned outfielder Anthony Gose to minor league camp yesterday, and said they’ve begun exploring the possibility of converting him into a pitcher.

Garza

Matt Garza didn’t make it through the third inning, as the Milwaukee Brewers dropped an 11-1 decision to the Oakland Athletics yesterday. Garza threw two shutout innings, but was charged with five runs while retiring only one batter in the third. The Brewers have today off.

The Brewers optioned reliever Brent Suter to Colorado Springs yesterday. Unless they make a move within the next few days, they will open the season with no left-hander in the bullpen.
