Winter storm affects flights at CMX

Houghton County Memorial Airport has sidestepped cancellation and delay problems seen elsewhere in recent weeks, but it can’t escape the fury of a Keweenaw winter. Of the four flights scheduled Wednesday between CMX and O’Hare in Chicago, one is canceled and two others delayed as of 11:30 AM.

In addition to significant snowfall, high winds are a problem. Gusts of over 30 miles per hour are contributing to the situation. The airport is serviced by Skywest Airlines, based out of Utah. According to FlightAware, over 10 percent of the carrier’s flights have been canceled nationwide Wednesday. It is a regional airline that partners with major carriers like United, who are responsible for marketing the route.
