UPPCO Not Buying Presque Isle Power Plant

The Presque Isle Power Plant is not for sale, according to a new agreement reached between WE Energies and Cliffs Natural Resources.

WE Energies Spokesperson Barry McNulty says that UPPCO will not be buying the Upper Peninsula based power plant this summer and that the Wisconsin utility company will continue to own and operate the plant as well as the electric distribution outlets.

McNulty says WE Energies and Cliffs Natural Resources have worked out a new five-year contract that states Cliffs will continue buying its power for the Empire and Tilden Mines from the plant.

The new agreement runs through 2020.

McNulty went on to say that WE Energies may help invest in a new power plant for the Upper Peninsula in the future.
