A coffee company in Calumet continues to grow their business from the grounds up

Most people don’t think of coffee beans when they think of the Copper Country.

But for nearly three years…Keweenaw Coffee Works on 5th Street in Calumet has been roasting their own successful line of coffees.

U.P. native Valerie Baciak co-owns the store along with her husband, Nate Shuttleworth.

Baciak said, “Our coffee comes from all over the world. We work with small artisanal farmers and importers that work with those farmers.”

In addition to flavors such as Borealis and The North Woods…they also produce special blends for good causes.

All the proceeds from The Spirit of The Trail go to support the CopperDog Sled Dog Race and their Community Coffee is donated to many local organizations.

Five dollars of each bag of their limited edition Love Coffee goes to help homeless veterans.

But their most popular flavor is the Yooper Blend.

Baciak said, “It’s a really nice, rich, smooth body on that. It’s really low acid so I think it’s really well-rounded for any coffee connoisseur.”

Keweenaw Coffee Works coffee can be found in 38 wholesale retailers.
