Audit Says Migrant Housing Monitoring Must Improve

A new state audit says the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development must improve the monitoring of migrant housing.

The Michigan Auditor General’s report says the agency has not made sure that it kept a complete list of migrant housing facilities.

The department must also make sure prior violations were corrected before new licenses are issued.

The audit covered the period of October 2011 through June of 2014.

In the report, the department agreed that improvements were needed but also said new efforts to do that have been implemented.

The department noted however that of the nearly 2,800 inspection records, the error rate was 0.5%.
