Baraga County Millages Pass – Election Results

Baraga County residents were in a supportive mood as they went to the polls today, approving all seven property tax requests on the ballot.

County-wide, a two-mill request for five years to fund road maintenance and improvements passed 776-400. A one-mill renewal for senior citizens programs was approved 890-290.

The Baraga Area School District request for a four-year renewal of the base 18-mill non-homestead property tax levy passed 227-120.

In Arvon Township, a .30-mill four-year renewal for ambulance service was approved by a 108-12 vote.

Baraga Township voters passed a four year, 1.5-mill renewal for fire protection by a 244-159 vote, and approved a four-year, 1.5-mill renewal for ambulance services 283-125.

Spurr Township voters approved a 2.5-mill, eight-year renewal for fire protection and emergency management with a 48-22 vote.

In the only contested election in the primaries, two incumbent L’Anse Township trustees held off a challenge for the two available seats. Pete Magaraggia received 242 votes, and Shelley Larson collected 212. Challenger Dan Grandy received 66 votes.
