“Big Annie” Statue Fundraiser

Anna Klobuchar Clemenc, affectionately known locally as “Big Annie”, has been recognized historically as one of the most notable activists in the early development of the U.S. labor movement. Leading the daily parade of thousands of miners down the streets of Calumet during the Copper Country Strike of 1913-1914, she demanded fair wages, mine safety, and social justice for miners and their families.

A local group formed to honor the activist, and is running a fundraising campaign to commission and install a statue that would be in the Downtown Greenspace Project.

In conjunction with the Keweenaw Area Community Foundation, they will collect donations for the statue, hoping to raise $150,000 to make it a reality.
