Bill Allowing People to Show Proof of car Insurance Electronically Awaits Govenor’s Signature

A bill allowing Michigan drivers to show proof of car insurance on their smartphone awaits the governor’s signature.

The measure, which has already passed the House, cleared the state Senate Wednesday.

State Representative Aric Nesbitt is behind the bill and says it should save people the hassle and headache of having to go to court because they were pulled over and didn’t have a paper copy of their car insurance.

He says the long-term goal is to have Michigan move to an all-electronic proof of insurance system using the computer network police officers tap into.
