Bill Cracks Down on Companies who Sell Overpriced Deeds

A bill cracking down on companies that want you to buy a copy of your deed for a lot more than you would spend locally awaits a vote in the Michigan Senate.

Some companies are charging as much as $80 for a copy of a deed when you can get it from your county for $1.

A bill that has cleared a Senate committee would require companies to tell people they can get a copy of their deed from the county and that it would be cheaper.

Those companies also couldn’t charge more than four times what a county charges.
