Bill Increases Penalty for Repeatedly Assaulting a Pregnant Woman

Those who repeatedly batter a pregnant woman could face more prison time, under a bill headed to the state House.

State Representative Amanda Price says the legislation would make repeat convictions for assaulting a woman the offender knows is pregnant a felony.

Under the measure, a third or subsequent conviction could result in up to five years in prison.

Price says in most these crimes are a result of domestic abuse.

The legislation passed a House committee.
