Bill Inspired by Courser and Gamrat Running for Re-election Still a Possibility

Now that the dust has settled on Tuesday’s special primary elections, one state lawmaker says she still wants to introduce a bill to prohibit lawmakers who are kicked out of office from running again in a special election.

However State Representative Lisa Posthumus Lyons says she may not formally introduce the bill until next year.

Former State Representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat’s decision to run for their open seats shortly after he resigned from the House and she was kicked out in September prompted Lyons to craft the bill.

Both Courser and Gamrat lost their re-election bids. Courser finished sixth and Gamrat finished third, respectively.

The two had an affair and are accused of using taxpayer resources to cover it up.
