Bill Seeks To Improve Bridge Safety

A legislative committee in Lansing this week will open discussion on a bill designed to improve bridge safety in the state.

The measure, before the Michigan House Transportation committee, would allow the Michigan Department of Transportation to schedule bridge inspections based on safety risks.

Current policy requires inspections every two years regardless of risk.

House Republican Ben Glardon of Owosso says the bill will make it easier to keep a closer eye on the state’s most dangerous bridges.
